I suggest we come up with a plan for all Iaomas clubs to execute, raising funds for victims of the tsunami.
some of you might think, they get enough, how about the problems in our own country. fair enough, then do something about that as well on your own behalf.
These poor people are in great need, and we can help them as an organisation.
anybody any good ideas?
let us know!
Oli

Many will have donated money already, I know I and many have, but im up for fund raising more, as enough will never be enough really!
Will have a quick think about the raffle.. maybe we should approach some martial art companies with the idea of putting in some prizes?
If so, write a draft email that everyone can email off & we can list the companies approached here. name & shame em too :-)
Stuart
Ps. we could i think set up a paypal account for raffle money & build it in one place

Sorry, too many people with names begining with "L" on here. I knew I'd get confused sooner or later. I'll start calling you all Susan to make it easier. I actually meant Luke. For getting up and doing the 30 min thang. Good to see people are still reading this section though eh. NEWS JUST IN: I've heard that DEC who is the main charity for the Tsunami is having difficulty spending the money. Apparently there's some argy bargy about what they need to spend it on on the time limit they have. Currently they've got 3 years to sort it out but they say they need 5-6 years. After that, the money go's somewhere else but NOT to another charity. Probably some fat pocketed govt official! Bah!

Alex, the whole situation over there is diabolical at the moment - and as usual the mainstream political hugging, biased media (ie what 90% of the general public watch) is ignoring it all.
A friend of the family is in the Australian Federal Police. He arrived back from overseas last friday after assesing the situation (The Australian government offered aid totalling 1 Billion, need to make sure the money is well spent and all that). It turns out there are TONNES of food, just going bad and not being used, held up because their is not enough people to distribute it. It was a Major Administrative F up (isn't it always)... Just let the people distribute it you say? no no no, that can't happen because then it will create an imbalance in distribution between areas so instead it sits and wastes away.
Oh, and I don't think many Australians can give more than they already have. We have had Tsumani appeal cricket matches, concerts, tv appeals etc etc. So if the Aussie reply seems non-existant then thats why - we did all that directly after the event (unlike other countries it seems),

Trav - 1 billion is alot of money. I can't imagine anyone thinking Australia didn't give enough!
The problem you will always have with donations (food or money) is whether it will get into the hands of the people that need it. I think about that anytime I give money or clothes to places like the Salvation Army or Goodwill donations.

o heard that oxfarm is thinking of giving money back to donators.......cuz they have too much.
and i think the red cross stated that they need reserves for the after care, and that it be less than smart to just think shortterm.
i agree, short term is devestating.
Oli
(its cuz i'm short......this term, hahahaha)

first reply ladies and gents!
Hi Oliver.
We would be interested in assisting you with the tsunami fund raiser raffle. Icon Martial Arts will donate a quantity of martial arts products in return for a favourable write up on your website with a link to our website and e-mail and telephone details listed on your website.
We would also like to be mentioned in your news letters.
As you are in Bournemouth, it may be worth while you making the trip to Gosport for an informal meeting with the directors of Icon Martial Arts Ltd. We can discuss the items which you would like to have in your raffle, it would give us an opportunity to meet you and for you to look at our facility in Gosport. We can let you take the items away with you for the raffle.
We may be interested in discussing a more permanent advertising programme with iaomas.
Best Regards
Tony Williams
Director Icon Martial Arts Ltd
