Not Just Katana for me, I have Japanese, Chinese and Korean weapons, from swords to sticks and canes etc... I do not have a huge collection, but I could fill the back of my car without too much difficulty...
(Not that I condone driving around with a small arsenal in the back of a car.. ;D )
So Glen, do you go for the decorative ornamental ones for display purpose, or the more functional ones for training...?
Marc

I have a Paul Chen Practical Plus Katana and for the price (£220) it is excellent. The instructors at the Iaido class were enthusing about it. I also have a Paul Chen Nami Iaito which again is a brilliant piece of kit for the price (£155). It looks well, is put together well and has some nice embellishments which you dont usually find on cheaper swords.

I have about a dozen real ones dating from the early 1900's back to the 1600's, a few functional ones (A Paul Chen in there), and 2 ornimental ones.
Like Oli said the passion is there but not the funds all the time.

Glen, Poser?
I have a friend who has a vietnamese combat short sword from the war. It is in good shape but not mint condition. Do you think you could get me an idea how much it might be worth.

Tim Don't no much about vietnamese swords, but it depends on age, condition, type (dress or functional), etc. Have you got any photo's of it? I don't mind having a looking into it.

glen i share your passion.......... but i don't share your funding i suspect... Talking about funding Oli, about 12 months ago I was in and auction for a 14th century katana, it was magnificent, the bidding started off at $1000 US, I pulled out at $5000 US, it ended up going for $450,000 US, my wife would killed me for the $5000 bid let alone the going all the way. Some are bloody expensive.

I've found this site that's called liveblade.com and they have 14th century swords for a lot less.
It is also supposed to be linked to a japanese trade organisation so it should be quality.
