Hi, I have just returned from a pleasant holiday in taiwan, just to share an incident.
There is a traditional chinese delicacy, soup brewed with pig nosed turtle and other herbs. While walking along this very famous street in a night market in taipei, i came across this "interesting" stall.
I noticed a tray full of wriggling stuffs, and wondering what it was, i squeezed up close to get a better look. what i saw curled my blood. Lying on the metal tray, i saw at least ten decapitated turtle heads STILL WRIGGLING. Some might not know, but turtles/tortoises have really long necks. The heads were severed at the midsection of the neck and more than ten heads were squirming about on the tray. next to this tray, a table top full of turtles can be seen, minus their heads..... Their soft undershells were removed and their hearts clearly beating still... Whats worst was that the headless necks were swivelling all around, and oozing a black paste rythematically..... i was so disturbed by this sight that i lost my appetite.
i have nothing against anyone who feast on dogs, cats, other wild animals, its their culture and in my opinion eating cows and pigs are equally sad as eating dogs (not that i eat dogs..) But the cruelty in the killing itself is not neccesary, the shop keeper did this just as a demonstration of how strong turtles are, proving that turtle soup will make the consumer strong and fit. Its sick.
I need to go have a puke now.

Why not just lift weights and take vitamins, living in a city makes you weak sometimes and shelters you from the reality of life. My Grand mother lived in the country on an acreage, I remember her performing the process of preparing chicken for lunch. She wrig their neck, which means she spun their bodies by hold their head so it dislocated their neck from the body then let them go the squakcled for hours it seemed. Looking at our young startled face, she said "Did you think that Chicken walked around in a clear plastic conatiner ready to serve, you city boys don't know nothing". We didn't want to get the chicken at lunch but after 30 minutes are so, hungar set in it tasted better then the store bought chicken. Its just part of life, prey and predator and Man is the Ultimate Predator, sad to say. We'll considering the alternative thats a good thing.

Its just part of life, prey and predator and Man is the Ultimate Predator, sad to say. We'll considering the alternative thats a good thing. Until something bigger stronger and faster than us poses a danger, then we resort to weapons. Lions and Tigers on land, Crocodiles, Sharks etc in the sea... as soon as they pose a threat they are hunted down for doing no more that what is there nature - a nature that we as humans have encroached on. Sad really But Kent, I'm with you on this one (even though every second one of your threads stops me eating chinese for a month lol). Morally, I see nothing wrong with eating dogs as who are we too judge... having lived on a farm I've seen my cousins pet pig, and pet lamb, both of which will run up to meet the car on return from an outing etc just like a normal pet...yet generally we think nothing of eating that kind of meat. Yet I find the slow killing of animals abhorant. It really sickens me to my stomach..... I can't believe that silly reason as to why its done. I can chop a worm in half and it will keep on wriggling forever... is a worm going to give me strength if I eat it?
