no, what they need to add is a REAL martial art!!!! Though not big on Olympic TKD (sparring) myself (its not the type of sparring we do btw), I gotta say, as far as instructors go, unless thats all they emphasise (ie. the sparring), then that is only one part of the art. People training for Olympics are not going to spread themselves that thin to include a `whole` art, its that simple. Martial arts include many facets, sparring in most of them is just one (small) part, but its the Olympics, for better or worse its not a part, its the whole! Dont judge us all by that & generalized statements like that do not good to the arts. (I know it was just a jest Andy btw). Dave Melton is WTF, but he doesnt fight like that at all (and thats just the small sparring bit I refer to), but he would get tarred with that brush when it is definatly ill deserved. As I said in another thread, I dont think Olympic TKD Sparring paints either Taekwon-do or martial arts with a nice brush, but like or loave it, its just a sport in the Olympics, no more, no less & if coaches (rather than instructors) want to gear what they do towards that, then so be it! TBH, I wasnt that impressed with the Olympic judo either & thats a great art that is also seen mainly as a sport! The Karate will be interesting next time, I wonder what folks opinions will be then!!! Stuart

Since its inclusion in the Olympics Judo has been completely mangled from what it is supposed to be. Sport Judo can be great to watch, but it is not Judo as I believe Kano intended. The Ju principle seems generally missing. Ray

The point I was making is by taking part of an art (same as Olympic Judo), those with medal hopes are only going to really practise that area from then on... but it doesnt represent the art itself.. just a facet of it!
